Tui Na for loss of smell and taste for 17 months

Patient: Maci, female, 16 years old

Date of first visit: August 9, 2022

Chief complaint: Loss of taste and smell for 17 months after fever with coronary pneumonia.

History of present illness: In March 2021, patient suffered from coronary pneumonia with fever and cough for seven days. After seven days, patient no longer had fever and cough, but experienced loss of taste and smell. After seeking treatments in many hospitals, patient’s condition was not improved. Western doctors have given up on any treatment.

The patient's mother received a message in her dream from a former colleague who had passed away eight years ago. This led her to seek traditional Chinese medicine natural therapy for her daughter.

TCM diagnosis: floating pulse, 70 beats/min, pale tongue with thin white coating.

TCM Treatment: 1. Fengyang acupressure Tui Na for one hour. acupoint selection: Feng Fu, Feng Chi, Tian Dong, Huatuo Jiaji points C1,2,3, T1,2,3.

2. Huo Xiang Zheng Qi Ye, take 1 bottle twice a day after meal for 5 days.

Notes: after one hour Tui Na treatment, patient’s senses of taste and smell have returned to normal. Follow-up after 20 days: patient had no recurrence.
